You have a specific audience to target and you want to make sure that your ad gets to them and no others. If you don’t use the negative keywords function, your ad could appear on the wrong place and wrong people. For instant, when you are selling a dog collar and you are using “collar” as your keyword. It’s possible he’s just looking for collar for his cat. What you can do is to use the negative keywords function and add “cat” into it, so that your ad don’t show. Testing ads is always important,but you don’t have to do much because Google AdWords can test your ads for you. By placing in two different ads in each AdGroup, Google AdWords then alternately displays the ads in search results. After a specific time frame, you will get results on which ad gets a higher CTR.
